Engine

The choice of engine is limited to that provided by Formula Schools. This year there has been a change in the engine supplied so we need to test the new engine versus the old to assess any difference in performance. It has already been noted a tuned exhaust has been supplied with the new engine rather than the short barrel exhaust supplied with the old engine. A change in the exhaust may need some modification to the position of the engine on the chassis and the bodywork which surrounds it

Engine test data and observations of the racing tend to suggest the new engine is slightly more powerful. The drawback with the new engine appears to be its sensitivity, there were reports that it is difficult to fit, tune and maintain, as well as the fact it is not just a straight 'slot in' replacement for the Leo.

We have decided to go ahead and use the new engine and have run it in using castor oil additions. Our analysis and observations of last years racing show the clear benefit from using the engine.

This is the differential partly stripped down, it shows the bearings in which it is mounted and you can clearly see how we have added the plastic drive wheel around it. The metal disk on the left hand side is for the disc brake. By allowing the drive wheels to turn independantly the differential improves tight cornering.
